Green credentials a key factor in procurement programmes.

Eventuoso supports the recently announced move by the ISO to create a sustainability standard for the events industry. Commitment to the environment is still as important as value for money, capability and creative approach when selecting a supplier despite financially difficult times.

We have been encouraged by the maintained level of significance that their environmental policies have to both clients and when bidding for new business. It’s good to know that the new standard will formally recognise sustainability within our industry.

Although the results of consumer studies exploring behavioural attitude towards the green influence on purchasing decisions have been encouraging, business focused reports have signified reluctance among SMEs to invest during a recession in improving their own environmental performance.

What is interesting however are the results from research on procurement from the Supply Chain Management Institute of the European Business School released in June last year which indicated that 63% of the businesses surveyed believed the global financial situation was of no consequence to their sustainable procurement programmes.

It was further suggested in the report that firms, who had a tight hold on their supply chain and insisted only on suppliers with ethical credentials, were viewed favourably, with their procurement policy regarded as a prime differentiator when considering their services.

With clients and prospective clients consistently expecting a high level of sustainability from events suppliers, standardising surely can only be a positive move.
